Overview
Hydromorphone occurs as drug used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Hydromorphone is known per brand name Dilaudid®. It belongs to the category of doses called opioid agonists. Hydromorphone, the semi-man-made μ opioid agonist, is a hydrogenated ketone of morphine and shares the pharmacologic properties typical of opioid analgesics. Hydromorphone & related opioids produce their major results on the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. These include analgesia, drowsiness, mental clouding up, changes within mood, euphoria or dysphoria, respiratory depression, cough suppression, decreased gi motility, infection, regurgitation, increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure, increased biliary pressure, pinpoint constriction of the pupils, increased parasympathetic activity and short-lived hyperglycemia.
CNS sedative drug, like more opioids, anesthetics, sedatives, hypnotics, barbiturates, phenothiazines, chloral hydrate and glutethimide may enhance the depressant results of hydromorphone hydrochloride. MAO inhibitors (including procarbazine), first-generation antihistamines (brompheniramine, diphenhydramine, chlorpheniramine), beta-blockers and alcohol may also enhance a depressant result of dilaudid. After conjunct therapy is contemplated, a dose of 1 or even each offices should become reduced.
Side Effects
Adverse results of dilaudid come similar to victims of more opioid anodyne, & represent an extension of pharmacologic results of the drug class. A major hazards of dilaudid include respiratory & CNS depression. Less than, circulatory depression, respiratory arrest, shock & cardiopulmonary arrest keep close at hand occurred.
